Capsule Geology

The Damascus occurrence is located on the south side of Tahtsa Reach, an arm of Ootsa Lake, about 88 kilometres south of the community of Houston. The property is about 9 kilometres east-southeast of the Huckleberry mine (093E 037).

The area of the Damascus prospect is underlain by volcanic rock of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group) and sedimentary rock of the Middle Jurassic Smithers Formation (Hazelton Group). Rhyolite, latite dikes, and obsidian occur in the area of the mineralization. A stock of the Late Cretaceoeous Bulkley Plutonic Suite intrudes the strata to the west. The stock consists of a quartz-phyric felsitic phase and a dioritic phase.

The Damascus vein (Main zone) is a structurally controlled precious and base metal vein where historic diamond drilling and trenching has traced the vein over a strike length of approximately 400 metres, determining the vein to have an average width of approximately 1.5 metres. Mineralization is associated with a shear zone trending 170 degrees and dipping 80 to 85 degrees west in a felsic volcanic unit that varies in composition between porphyritic rhyolite and rhyolite tuff. The mineralization occurs mainly in veinlets, as disseminations and in breccia zones and consists of galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite, arsenopyrite and pyrite. Another showing consists of disseminated chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena in tourmalinized sandstone. Blocks of disseminated chalcopyrite, bornite and pyrite occur in a siliceous felsite within a broad fault zone. Marcasite, boulangerite, tetrahedrite and argentite have been reported. Two other similar vein occurrences are known in the area but have received very little exploration work.

Indicated reserves of the Main (Damascus) zone to a depth of 20 metres are 20,735 tonnes grading 411.3 grams per tonne silver, 0.47 gram per tonne gold, 2.85 per cent lead and 4.63 per cent zinc. Inferred reserves for the same zone to a depth of 100 metres are 196,087 tonnes at the same grades (Statement of Material Facts - January 24, 1986, International Damascus Resources).

The Damascus vein was extensively explored by International Damascus Resources, Cominco Limited and Granges Inc. between 1980 and 1986 using geochemical surveying, geophysical surveys, trenching and diamond drilling. The occurrence is part of the Seel property owned by Grayd Resource Corp. and operated by Grayd in 2003, and in 2004 and 2015 by Gold Reach Resources Ltd. under agreement with Grayd.

Refer to Seel (093E 105) for further details of the Seel and Ox properties. The Seel occurrence is located about 1.4 kilometres west of the Damascus.
